California Nebula Acrylic Print
The California Nebula, designated as NGC 1499, is an expansive emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. Spanning approximately 100 light-years in length, it gets its name from its resemblance to the shape of the state of California. This nebula is primarily composed of hydrogen gas and dust, which glow due to the ionization caused by nearby hot stars, particularly the massive star Xi Persei. This interaction between the star's radiation and the surrounding gas creates the striking, colorful displays characteristic of emission nebulae.
Discovered in 1880 by the American astronomer William H. Pickering, the California Nebula is one of the largest nebulae in the northern sky. Its vast structure is best observed in long-exposure photographs, revealing intricate details in its filaments and surrounding star fields. The nebula lies roughly 1,000 light-years away from Earth and is part of a larger molecular cloud complex. This region of space is a site of ongoing star formation, as the dense areas within the nebula can collapse under gravity to give birth to new stars and planetary systems.
The California Nebula also serves as an important laboratory for astronomers studying stellar evolution and the dynamics of interstellar matter. Observations of this nebula have revealed insights into the processes that govern the formation of stars and the subsequent dispersal of elements into the galaxy. Through various wavelengths of light, including infrared and radio, scientists can gather data about the temperature, density, and composition of the nebula, furthering our understanding of the life cycle of stars and the chemical enrichment of the cosmos.
Acrylic prints add depth and impact to any artwork. Built to last and guaranteed to add an element of sophistication to any space, these are lightweight, shatterproof, and temperature-resistant, making them easy to mount on your walls. They are made from high-quality materials, can maintain their vibrant colors and crisp details for years.
Features:
- The crystal-clear acrylic prints are approximately 4mm /0.15" thick and feature straight-cut corners for a sleek and modern finish.
- Transparent background is not supported, and the background color will be white if no color information is provided. This ensures that the images are showcased in the best possible way, with vibrant colors and enhanced detail.
- We include hanging hardware with screws for easy installation. With a screw hole in each corner, regardless of format, the center of the hole is positioned approximately 14mm /0.55" from each edge in each corner. The screw hole diameter is 8mm /0.31", and the diameter of the head of the screw is 15mm /0.6".
- Sizes may vary slightly by region. For the US and Canada, the measurement is in inches, while for the rest of the world, it is in centimeters.
- It is printed and shipped on demand. No minimums are required.
