Sadr Poster
Sadr, also known as Gamma Cygni, is a supergiant star located in the constellation Cygnus, and it is situated near the heart of the constellation's prominent cross-shaped asterism. This luminous star is a spectral type Iab supergiant, approximately 150,000 times brighter than the Sun and around 12 times more massive. Sadr is one of the most luminous stars visible to the naked eye and is located about 8,500 light-years away from Earth.
Surrounding Sadr is a rich and dynamic region of space, often referred to as the "Sadr Region" or "Sadr Complex." This area is a vibrant star-forming region teeming with gas, dust, and newly formed stars. The star's intense radiation and stellar winds interact with the surrounding interstellar medium, creating a complex tapestry of emission and reflection nebulae. Among the most notable features in this region are the Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888) and the Great Cygnus Nebula. Sadr's strong ultraviolet radiation ionizes the surrounding hydrogen gas, causing it to glow with a characteristic reddish hue. The interaction between Sadr's stellar winds and the surrounding gas and dust has sculpted intricate filaments and knots of material, contributing to the nebula's intricate and beautiful appearance. The Sadr Region serves as a magnificent example of stellar activity and the processes involved in the birth and evolution of stars and nebulae.
